Revd David to retire

8th June 2025

It is with great sadness that we have to report that Reverend David Rowe has announced that he will be retiring on the grounds of ill health.

David and Pixie have sent the following message:

Dear friends and family of the parish of Wiverton in the Vale,

I am deeply sorry to say that because of my ongoing cancer treatment and its side-effects I have had to apply for ill-health retirement. This has now been granted by the Pension Board, and so I shall be relinquishing the post of Rector as from the end of July. Our final “farewell Sunday” will be on 6th July at Langar. Pixie and I will lead and preach at the service. There will be time to say goodbye after the service.

I am so sorry that our time with you has not been as long as we both hoped. We have enjoyed our time serving in the parish and have some very fond memories of special times, which we will both treasure. Thank you so much for all your compassion and support over the last couple of years and particularly, your patience over these recent months. You are held very close in our hearts.

With our love and gratitude,

David and Pixie

We all wish to thank David, Pixie and their family for the inspiring work they have carried out in the parish over the short time they have been with us. We wish them all the best for the future and assure them of our prayers as they move on into an uncertain future.

You can read David’s reflections on his journey with cancer in a series of articles he has published with the title Ending Well.

Please join us and them at the service on 6th July – to say ‘thank you’ and ‘goodbye’ and pray for God’s blessing on them going forward.
