Picnic and Praise, Colston Bassett
Colston Bassett, 26 August 2018 After many successive years of beautiful weather for the annual Picnic and Praise Service at the ruined church of St Mary in Colston Bassett, we finally ran out of good fortune today as the heavens opened and treated the area to a much-needed drenching. The Picnic was abandoned and the Praise Service hastily reconvened in the relative shelter of St John’s Church in the centre of the village. It all seemed very appropriate that the service was based around the creation story (separating the sea and the dry land) as we pondered the miracle of rivers running to the sea and rain returning the water to the land.
