The building

Saint Giles, Cropwell Bishop lies in the civil parish of Cropwell Bishop, the largest village in the parish. The church dates from the 13th century and further details of its history can be found by clicking here or on the Southwell and Nottingham Church History Project.

Church and community

St Giles’ Church plays a full part in keeping a Christian presence at the heart of the largest village in the parish.  Some of our congregation are active on the parish council, memorial hall committee, scouts, school or local clubs, so we’re highly visible in the community.  Recent building improvements, including a servery and toilet facilities plus flexible-use space at the west end of the nave, have allowed us to host a busy mid-week “Coffee, Cake and Chat” session (registered as a Place of Welcome), a “Bellringing Beginners” group, “The Well” in co-operation with the Methodist Circuit, a Friday Playgroup, weekly practices of our Joint Churches Choir and a sit-down tea after monthly Family Praise services.  The space is also ideal for meetings or small-scale informal worship.  All in all, St Giles’ is a great place for worship, ministry and community!
