Saint Andrew, Langar
The building
Saint Andrew, Langar lies in the civil parish of Langar cum Barnstone, and serves the same two villages. The church dates from the 13th century and further details of its history can be found on the Southwell and Nottingham Church History Project.
Church and community
St Andrew’s is the largest of our church buildings, so is well placed to host a monthly all-parish all-age Holy Communion, which is significant for the whole parish and its unity.
The church has moveable seating throughout, allowing various layouts for large and small services of all kinds, including parish retreats, large weddings, funerals and carol services. It is also used for concerts, ceilidhs, drama (sacred & secular), meetings and various community activities. For example, it is used as a venue for a monthly pop-up café and as a meeting-place for community groups when their regular meeting place is not available.
The nearby church school has strong links with the church and rector which we wish to develop further. The children visit the church as part of their education, and use it for some assemblies, the nativity play and leavers’ services.
We have a strategy for essential repairs, energy efficiency and improvements to allow us to bring more of the community into the church.
