Installation Service – what a joyous evening!
The Parish of Wiverton in the Vale joyfully welcomed its new Rector, the Lauren Simpson, at a Service of Institution and Installation held at St Andrew’s Church, Langar, on 15th July 2026. The packed church filled with members of the six parish churches, local residents, clergy, family and friends, all gathered to celebrate the beginning of this new exciting chapter in the life of the parish.
The service was attended by the Lord Lieutenant, Professor Veronica Pickering and her consort, Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Mark Onyett representing the Patron and was led by the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, the Rt Revd Paul Williams, who instituted Lauren as Rector. Representatives from the Deanery and parish, the Head and some children from Langar Primary School, the Mayor of Rushcliffe Borough Council representing the wider community and a group of children and leaders from the Family Praise group took part in welcoming Lauren, to Wiverton in the Vale. The Family Praise team surprised Lauren with a gift of a skateboard (one of the criteria the children had for a new Rector!) and a crash helmet, representing the challenges and adventures which lie ahead.
The music, a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs led by one of the Diocese’s worship leaders, was sung gloriously and gustily by all present.
In his address, Bishop Paul spoke of the gifts and experience Lauren has already achieved and that the only hand of God that evening would be in Langar church, not on the football field in a match later that night.
Following the service, everyone enjoyed refreshments and fellowship, providing an opportunity for parishioners and visitors to meet Lauren personally. The evening marked not only the installation of a new Rector but also a truly joyful celebration of the parish’s shared faith, hope and commitment to serving their communities together.
