Guidelines for video contributors – testing your equipment

Testing your equipment
- Check your webcam by clicking here
- Click on the grey box
- A series of tests will be carried out and the results presented under the heading
- Ideally, your webcam should have
- a Resolution of at least 1280×720
- a Frame Rate of at least 15 FPS
- Click on the grey box
- Check your microphone by clicking here
- Click on the grey box
- Speak into the microphone whilst a series of tests are carried out
- The results will be presented under the heading
- Ideally your microphone should have
- a Sample Rate of at least 48000
- Click on the grey box
- Check your internet connection by clicking here
- Click on the GO button and wait for the test to complete
- A Fibre Broadband connection should have a download speed of 20-40 Mbps and an upload speed of 5-10 Mbps
- A Standard Broadband connection should have a download speed of 2-10 Mbps and an upload speed of 0.5-2 Mbps (uploading your video over standard broadband will be slow so you will need some patience!)
- A mobile phone 4G connection should have a download speed of 8-10 Mbps and an upload speed of 3-6 Mbps, but this is highly dependent on your signal strength and quality
