Father’s Day Service, Colston Bassett

Father’s Day dawned with blustery winds and the promise of showers so the Father’s Day Service was held in the Martins Arms rather than in its garden. We gathered in the beautiful interior to be led by Reader Katharine Bacon in Morning Worship. Churchwarden Edward Hine gave us a very moving and thought-provoking talk based on the Prodigal about the overwhelming love God the Father has for each one of us.

The readers were Nick Perry and Stephen Bolton, and Sally Stothard composed and led the intercessions. Yod Fowler read a prayer for Dads and the congregation of 20 adults and 12 children joined in a prayer for all fathers. Dorothy Thompson ably pitched and led the a capella singing and the Service concluded with coffee being kindly offered by the Martins Arms though some families treated their fathers to a pint!

The sun broke through and encouraged families and friends to relax outside with their drinks in the Martins Arms’ delightful gardens before returning home to seek their lunches.

Can we offer our heartfelt thanks to the Martins Arms for again offering their hospitality in hosting this Service and for their generosity in treating us to such delicious coffee afterwards.
