The annual Ride+Stride for Churches event takes place between 10 am and 6 pm on 14th September when people raise sponsorship by walking, cycling, and riding horses, tractors, etc to visit churches across the country. Details of this national event can be found at www.rideandstrideuk.org.
In Notts, the event is organised by Nottinghamshire Historic Churches Trust, and churches are urged to take part in some way – if only by being open with a sign-in form for visitors or, better still, by putting on an event such as a cake sale, history talk, concert etc. Participating churches can receive 50% of the sponsorship raised by riders/striders who nominate them, and the other 50% is used by the Trust to support churches with grants for repair and restoration.
If you would like to take part please contact the Ride+Stride Administrator for Notts, Margaret Lowe, on 07757 800 919 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or go to the Trust’s website www.nottshistoricchurchtrust.org.uk.
All of the churches in our parish (including the two St Mary’s) will be open for visiting on the day. Some will be manned and provide an enthusiastic welcome along with refreshments. Barnstone will just have a sign-up sheet by the gate and the interior of St John the Divine (which has a wedding on that day) will only be accessible from 2pm onwards.
