A fitting celebration

The sun shone, the bells rang out and the church glowed and sparkled. The Celebration and Thanksgiving Service was a great success. People of all ages and from all the villages in the Parish joined those from Cropwell Bishop to welcome Bishop Paul in the wondrously re-ordered St Giles. Everyone was very impressed with the vision behind the project and the standard of work undertaken by the team of Carl Andrews and builders from Lang Conservation.

As well as being thankful for all the building work, we praised and gave thanks for the skill, patience and craft of those who had beautifully embroidered two new cushions to improve the comfort of the medieval pews.

Finally, the Cropwell Bishop home team, regular congregation and friends marked the outstanding leadership, care and sheer hard work of Hilary Tabron as churchwarden with a presentation of a specially engraved glass hurricane lamp, flowers and garden vouchers.

Celebratory drinks and nibbles were shared after the service and everybody was delighted that Bishop Paul was able to stay and chat for so long. The Home team were thrilled to receive this feedback from Bishop Paul a few days later.

“It was a great joy to be with you on Sunday at St Giles for what felt like a truly fitting celebration of the hard work and many prayers that resulted in such an outstanding and inspirational re-ordering. There was a wonderful clarity too about the vision that underpinned this, touchingly expressed in some of the conversations I had with individuals after the service who spoke about how their own personal faith has come alive through the ministry of the parish.”

Well done everyone – what an inspiration!
